In 20 years, a 4 year old child could grow up and graduate from college. In 12 years, that same child will learn to drive a car. In 8 years, that child will start middle school. In 1 year, that child will start kindergarten. In 5 days, the world could end. life could cease to exist, and everything you ever thought you knew, could come to a proverbial hault. It takes 13 hours to drive the length of the state of Florida. It’s 3 hours to get to New York via plane, about the same time it would take me to get to Disney world, with traffic and parking. It takes around an hour to do 1 load of laundry. It takes about 10 minutes to walk a mile. 3 minutes to make a phone call. 1 minute to give someone a hug. 10 seconds for a car crash to begin – and end. and in 1 fraction of a second, lightning can strike, your heart can be broken, and everything you thought you knew about your life, your family, and your future can be torn from you shredded before your very eyes, and taken away.

But . . .

In a fraction of a second, a kind word, a gentle touch, a simple smile can start to mend a hurt broken and damaged heart. In 10 seconds you can hear the words I love you, and say I love you too. In 1 minute – you can be held by someone so your heart no longer hurts quite so bad. In 3 minutes – you can fall asleep in someones arms. In 10 minutes you can wrap a gift and fill out a card expressing your love. You can fly around the world, give someone a kiss, tell them how you feel, go to dinner, and fly back home in under 2 days. In nine months, you can become a parent. In ten years, you can still be unsure of how to do the job. In 30 years you can look back and smile on what you and your children have accomplished, all because of the smallest most insignificant thing ….

…a fraction of a second.
